The video of yet another US police shooting has just surfaced, and in a shocking turn, this African American caregiver, Charles Kinsey, had his hands fully up in the air, but still got shot.

According to the cell phone video published by Gawker, Kinsey is seen lying on the ground with his hands fully up in the air as he explained to the police that he and the autistic man he was assisting had no weapon.

“I thought it was a mosquito bite, and when it hit me I had my hands in the air, and I’m thinking I just got shot!” Kinsey, who survived the Monday US police shooting told WSVN. “And I’m saying, ‘Sir, why did you shoot me?’ and his words to me were, ‘I don’t know.’”

Reports are that the police officers were dispatched following 911 calls that a man wielding a gun was threatening to commit suicide. When the police arrived the scene and saw Kinsey and the autistic man, he ordered him to get on the ground. One of the officers said that the autistic man ‘had something in his hand’, to which Kinsey explained was a ‘toy truck.’

Still, with his hands in the air, Kinsey got shot. And then was placed in handcuffs.

The North Miami Police Department said in their statement:

“Arriving officers attempted to negotiate with two men on the scene, one of whom was later identified as suffering from autism. At some point during the on-scene negotiation, one of the responding officers discharged his weapon, striking the employee.”

The police department is yet to release the name of the officer, though he has been placed on administrative leave.
