Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday paid a visit to his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The immediate past president refused to answer a question on the ongoing anti-corruption war of the Buhari administration which has led to the investigation and prosecution of a number of his aides.

During an interview session with State House correspondents after the meeting, Jonathan said it would not be appropriate for him to speak on the matter because many of the cases were still in court, Daily Trust writes.

However, he said that the meeting, which lasted less than 20 minutes, afforded him the opportunity of briefing President Buhari on his recent international engagements and those still to come, including, of course his appointment as leader of the African Union observation mission to Zambia.

Jonathan also said that he as well as Ijaw elders and traditional rulers were working to ensure peace in the Niger Delta region after the devastation caused by the Niger Delta Avengers and other militant groups in a renewed wave of violence.

While maintaining that the country isn’t great because of oil, but because of her diversity and size, he stressed that a united Nigeria was needed as there cannot be development anywhere without peace.

Meanwhile, in addition to meeting with the former president, Buhari met with members of the Federal Executive Council today.
