Former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a bid for the Anambra governorship ticket of the party.

Soludo, regarded as one of the most cerebral public personalities in Nigeria has on many occasions tackled the economic plans of the APC-led federal government.

The former apex bank governor will vie for the APC ticket for the 2017 Anambra governorship alongside 11 other aspirants who have presently indicated interest.

One of the notable aspirants is chairman of Capital Oil Limited, Mr Ifeanyi Ubah, who has on different occasions boasted about having the solutions to Nigeria’s foreign exchange crisis, fuel scarcity and other economic challenges.

The Vanguard lists other aspirants to include Chief George Muoghalu, Chief Barth Nwibe, Mr Obinna Okonkwo and Chief Paul Chukwuma.

Others are Dr Chike Obidigbo, Chief Raph Okeke, Chief Tony Nwoye, Sen. Uche Ekwunife, Sen. Andy Ubah, Chief Obinna Uzor and Prince Donatus Okonkwo.

The APC has an uphill task to unseat Governor Willie Obiano who is adjudged by many to have done fairly well.

The Anambra governorship election will also be a major test for the popularity of the APC in the southeast where it has barely enjoyed much support in the past, and must now also deal with growing secessionist agitation seen as a major sign of discontent with the party’s government at the centre.
