In fulfillment of their course curriculum and other training activities, students of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) Jaji, Senior Course 47/2025, accompanied by members of the Directing Staff led by the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies, Rear Admiral Aniefiok Uko, embarked on a study tour to Headquarters 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ohafia, on Tuesday, 6 May 2025.
The Deputy Commandant, represented by the Team Leader/Director Department of Land Warfare, Brigadier General Nnaemeka Ogili, disclosed that the study tour to 14 Brigade, tagged “Harnessing Grass-root Intelligence for Enhanced Internal Security,” aimed to provide the students with invaluable insights into the critical role of community-based intelligence in maintaining internal security. This would inform their approach to security challenges, emphasizing the importance of community partnerships and intelligence-driven strategies in achieving effective internal security.
The Team Leader added that the tour was expected to expose the students to the trends and contemporary security challenges in Abia State and, by extension, the southeast at large. He charged the students to contribute meaningfully during the interactive session and learn from the experiences and best practices adopted by the Brigade in maintaining relative peace and security in the state.
In his remarks, the Commander 14 Brigade Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 3 Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA (OPUK), Brigadier General Hassan Bello, highlighted that intelligence is crucial in all military operations, enhancing situational awareness, decision-making, and operational effectiveness. This enables troops to better understand the enemy’s capabilities, anticipate threats, and coordinate decisive actions, thereby achieving operational successes with minimal risks.
Brigadier General Bello, while addressing the students, stated that the visit would provide them with a profound understanding of the operational dynamics of the Brigade and further enhance their comprehension of the activities and challenges faced in daily operations. The Commander expressed his profound gratitude to the Commandant AFCSC Jaji for choosing the Brigade as a destination for the study tour. He reiterated that the students should remain focused on the essence of their visit and wished them a happy stay in Abia, “God’s own state.”
The high point of the tour was the brief/presentation on the activities of the Brigade, interactive session, vote of thanks, presentation of souvenirs, and group photograph.
