The Grammys Favour White Women, Azealia Banks Slams Hollywood Feminism
Azealia Banks has a lot of reservation with the women protesting the fact that men swept up the trophies at the 2018 Grammy Awards.
Recall that yesterday the Grammy Awards president, Neil Portnow, urged women in music to step up if they want to change the status quo, and that came after people took to social media to protest the fact that only 11 women won out of the over 80 categories, and only one of them –Alessia Cara for Best New Artist– was televised.
“I think it has to begin with women who have the creativity in their hearts and souls — who want to be musicians, who want to be engineers, who want to be producers, who want to be part of the industry on the executive level — to step up,” Portnow told Variety.
He then added, “Because I think they would be welcome,” he continued. “I don’t have personal experience of those kinds of brick walls that you face, but I think it’s really a combination. Us as an industry making the welcome mat very obvious, creating mentorships, creating opportunities not only for women but all people who want to be creative and really paying it forward and creating that next generation of artists who feel like they can do anything, they can say anything.”
Well, Azealia feels that the people complaining are white folks, that they didn’t sing same music all these years white women were getting all the major categories while the people of colour got ignored.
“All the white female artists are crying bout under-representation at the Grammys as if white female artists don’t lead the pack at the Grammys every freaking year,” she said.
She continued, saying, “I find that a lot of white women in the entertainment industry want to be credited for their mediocrity and make it a gender issue when they don’t get their way, yet will say absolutely nothing about all other races of women who continually get left out so they can have the spotlight.”
