The Theatre Commander Joint Task Force North East North East (NE), Operation HADIN KAI, Maj Gen W Shaibu has identified collaboration and synergy, as key drivers to addressing the security challenges in the NE theatre of operations. He stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the State Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Musa Farouk Boyi on 15 February 2024, at the Headquarters State Command Maiduguri.
Gen Shaibu noted that the complex security situation in the NE required team work and collaboration, adding that security agencies have to continously work jointly, so as to address the security problems and create an enabling environment for law abiding citizens to go about their activities. He urged the Commandant to sustain the good working relationship between the Corps, the military and other security agencies, in order to achieve the mandate of OPHK.
In his response, the Commandant welcomed the Theatre Commander and described his visit as an honour, having left his demanding schedules to embark on the visit.
Boyi acknowledged the good working relationship between the Command and the Theatre, emphasising that the society is enveloped by asymmetric war triggered by insurgency, which he said can not be handled by the military alone. He appreciated the military for the encouragement and support in the area of training and assured that his doors were always open for any form of support and collaboration.
Similarly, the Theatre Commander paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police Borno State Police Command CP ML Yusufu at the Headquarters State Command Maiduguri.
During the visit, Gen Shaibu averred that the burden of security falls on the civil police and the Armed Forces. He said there was need for social interaction and collaborative efforts to solve the security challenges, adding that the over 14 years of insurgency, required intelligence driven operations. He further appealed for more synergy among all security agencies in the NE.
Remarking, CP Yusufu described the relationship between the police and the military in Borno as cordial and symbiotic, adding that internal security operations were jointly conducted. He said owing to the synergy, sanity had been restored in the state.
The CP also noted that the call by the Theatre Commander for the operations to be intelligence driven was in line with the Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun’s Command Philosophy.
The visits which featured presentation of quarter guard, signing of visitor’s book, exchange of mementos and group photographs, had in attendance, senior officers from Headquarters Theatre Command, NSCDC and the police Command.
