Theatre Commander Visits Shehu Of Borno, Solicits For More Support

As part of the ongoing efforts to galvanise support for the fight against insurgency in the North East (NE), the Theatre Commander Joint Task Force (JTF), NE Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Maj Gen W Shaibu, on Thursday 15 February 2024, paid a visit to His Royal Highness the Shehu of Borno at the Shehu’s Palace Maiduguri.

Stating his purpose of visit, Gen Shaibu said he was at the Palace to pay homage to the Royal father, having recently assumed Command as the 14th Theatre Commander and to seek for prayers, as well as more support for the ongoing operations especially in the non kinetic means. He said though significant progress has been recorded in decimating the terrorists, more efforts need to be made to bring an end to the menace.

Gen Shaibu used the medium to assure the royal father of provision of adequate security during the forthcoming Kanem Borno Summit holing in Maiduguri, which he said will attract dignitaries across the length and breath of the country.

In his response, His Royal Highness the Shehu of Borno Alhaji Dr Abubakar Umar Ibn Garbai Al – Amin El – Kanemi, thanked the Theatre Commander for the visit and appreciated the military for its efforts in Maiduguri, noting that the coming of the Military Command and Control Centre had changed the tide in the fight against insurgency in the NE.

The Shehu also noted that with government efforts and security agencies, normalcy had returned to Maiduguri and its environs.

Dr Abubakar, used the medium to appeal to the Theatre Commander to continue to assist in providing security to locals especially around the Lake Chad, so as to enhance their farming activities, which he said will further boost economic activities around the area. He assured the Theatre Commander that his doors were always open to offer, as well as recieve advice for the progress of the operations and the society at large.

Present during the visit were the Theatre Logistics Component Commander Brig Gen EJ Ikomi, Maritime Component Commander Commodore GPZ Ado Gambo, Brig Gen B Sarki the Theatre Intelligence Coordinator, District Heads from the Borno Emirate Council and staff officers of Headquarters Theatre Command.
