Security sources in Adamawa State have said that they believe the explosion today at the Divisional Police Station in Yola, the capital city of Adamawa State, is likely to have been caused by an “accidental discharge,” according to PRNigeria.
Sources speaking with PRNigeria said that “for now we are not suspecting terrorism for the explosion as the security agencies are currently investigating the remote cause of the incident.”
The same sources also said, “the explosion is likely caused by an accidental discharge due to mishandling of explosive devices by security personnel within the police station.”
Other media sources have reported that the accidental explosion may have been caused by explosives confiscated from Boko Haram.
The police station where the explosion took place was located in a commercial area nearby a market, school prison, and other public facilities.
Early reports say that at least four people were sent to the mortuary and more than twenty people were being tended to by medical personnel.
