Uber Debuts ‘Trip Tracker’ to Allow Users View a Family Member’s Route in Real-Time
Uber has today announced a new tool that will allow family members and other loved ones to track each others’ trips using its service. The feature called “Trip Tracker” is an additional feature of Uber’s Family Profiles, a program Uber announced in March which allows customers to pay for rides for their family and friends.
With the Family Profiles feature, users can add other Uber riders to a group and pay the bill for all the group members’ trips from the same payment card. It is meant to be used among those who are a part of a small, trusted group.
Engadget reports that with the Trip Tracker, those in charge of the Family Profile will now be able to receive details about the trip being taken by members of the group. They will also be able to see when the family member left, where they went off, the route they took, and when they arrived, Uber explains.
Experts are however of the opinion that this development will create fears and cause users to avoid using the transport platform in order to avoid remote monitoring from relatives.
The U.S., Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, and Columbia are the countries with the most Family Profiles and the city of Los Angeles has the highest record of Family Profile with the most people on it.
