Uganda’s Ruling Party NRM Backs 74-year-old Museveni For 6th Term

Uganda’s ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has endorsed 74-year-old President Yoweri Museveni as its candidate for the 2021 elections.

Museveni will be 76-year-old and also will be running for his sixth term by then.

According to a local daily, New Vision the NRM agreed in a meeting on Wednesday that the president should continue leading the movement to continue the country’s transformation.

“[He should] continue leading the movement and the state in 2021 and beyond to eliminate bottlenecks to transformation.”

Yoweri Museveni was the chairman of the meeting.

Museveni’s candidacy for the country’s next election comes after he signed a 2017 bill dismissing the presidential age limit of 75.
