Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has told Leicester City to wait another weekend for their title celebrations.
Claudio Ranieri’s men will be crowned Premier League champions if they win at Old Trafford on Sunday but the Red Devils have vowed to be party poopers on the night, the Mirror reports.
United are also chasing a Champions League spot with fierce rivals City and Arsenal, hence they have a lot riding on the game on Sunday.
“We have to beat them because we’re still in the race for fourth spot,” said the United boss.
“We can’t allow them to be champions this weekend at Old Trafford. I think they shall be champions a week later, so we won’t spoil the party, only postpone it a little bit.
“I was the first who said they could be the champions, so for me it’s not a surprise. They had the circumstances to always play the same team and didn’t play as many matches as other Premier League teams.
“I think it’s good for the Premier League and for football that not always the same teams are champions.”
United trail Leicester by 17 points and that will stretch to 20 if the Foxes win in Manchester, and Van Gaal says it’s normal for his side to be hosting potential champions as his players aren’t used to being champions.
“The players now playing aren’t used to being champions.
“De Gea was never champion. Rooney, Carrick, they have been the champions once, or maybe more than once.”
However, Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick each have Five Premier League titles, and David De Gea won the 2013 title.
