HuffPost is reporting that Vanessa Trump has filed for divorce from her husband, Donald Trump Jr., after 12 years of marriage.

According to the media, she filed for an “uncontested proceeding” with the Manhattan Supreme Court, and this comes a day after report started swirling that they “have been living separate lives.”

Shortly after the news of the application surfaced, the couple released a joint statement, saying, “After 12 years of marriage, we have decided to go our separate ways. We will always have tremendous respect for each other and our families. We have five beautiful children together and they remain our top priority. We ask for your privacy during this time.”

It is unclear why their marriage failed, but sources close to the family claim that friends of Trump Jr have become concerned about his behaviour since his father became president, like how he likes tweets by conspiracy theorists. The huge blow to his marriage could be the incident of February, when a Massachusetts man sent an envelope of white powder to their Trump Tower residence in New York City. Although the powder was found to be non-hazardous, his wife got hospitalised, while he jetted out to India on a Trump Organization trip. And so, Vanessa was often lonely.

The 40-year-olds have been married since 2005, and have five children together.

The ‘uncontested’ application means they will not be locked in nasty battles over child custody or their assets.
