We Will Not Take Our Armed Forces For Granted – Vice President Yemi Osinbajo

Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said Nigerians will not take its Armed Forces for granted for having relentlessly defended the nation’s territory against external adversaries as well as protecting of lives and property of civilians.

Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said Nigerians will not take its Armed Forces for granted for having relentlessly defended the nation’s territory against external adversaries as well as protecting of lives and property of civilians.

The Vice President made this known during the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRDC), Inter-Denominational Church Service where he showered accolades on members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and veterans.

According to the Vice President, “we will not take our AFN for granted as the diverse people of Nigeria are a nation today because of the sacrifices of our men and women of the Armed Forces both the dead and the living.”

Prof Osibanjo said he was delighted to be part of the gathering in honour of Nigerian’s fallen heroes, military veterans and the AFN for their contributions to nation building describing it as a debt of gratitude which cannot be repaid.

He reassured families of the fallen heroes of government’s unflinching commitment towards addressing their welfare needs.

The Vice President acknowledged what he described as the uncommon resilience, courage and commitment of personnel of the AFN, in combating challenges of insurgency, militancy, banditry and other sundry crimes confronting the nation with remarkable feats being recorded.

Prof Osinbajo added that efforts by AFN were not only to safeguard the present but to preserve the future of the country in order to ensure a safer and secure nation for the generality of Nigerians.

He noted that government will continue to improve upon budgetary allocation for the Defence sector in order to boost the welfare and morale of the AFN personnel to promote efficient service delivery.

In his sermon, the President of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN), Rev Dachollon Datiri urged Nigerians, including the AFN and those in authority to continue to offer selfless service to humanity and the nation.

The COCIN President implored the government to remain responsible by providing the AFN with requisite support, encouragement and enablement to perform their constitutional duties.

He implored Nigerians to be humble and faithful in their service to humanity and the country.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin read the first scripture.

Dignitaries who graced the AFRD celebration Church service were the Deputy House Leader, Right Honourable Peter Akpatason, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, ministers, legislators, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ette Ibas, and the Acting Head of Service, Dr Yemi Esan. Others are the President Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Samson Ayokunle, members of the Diplomatic Corps, senior military and paramilitary officers, among others.
