Your Promotion Today Is Part Of The COAS Mandate To Strengthen Our Operational Readiness – I Expect You To Justify This Confidence – Brig Gen IM Abbas

The Commander, 34 Artillery Brigade and Land Component Commander Operation UDOKA, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mu’azu Abbas, has charged newly promoted soldiers of the Brigade to justify the confidence reposed in them by the Nigerian Army, stating that their elevation is a direct fulfillment of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) welfare-driven mandate. He made this remark on Monday, 24 November 2025, during the decoration ceremony of newly promoted soldiers held at the 34 Artillery Brigade Parade Ground, Owerri.

In his address, Brigade General Abbas congratulated the beneficiaries and reminded them that the Nigerian Army under the leadership of the COAS Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM remains committed to rewarding hard work, discipline and professionalism. *“Your promotion today is part of the COAS’ mandate to strengthen our operational readiness — I expect you to justify this confidence,”* he told the troops.

He emphasized that the elevation of about 315 personnel across various units within the Brigade is not only a recognition of individual excellence but also a strategic step toward enhancing the operational capability of 34 Artillery Brigade, particularly in ongoing operations under Operation UDOKA. The Commander urged the newly decorated soldiers to remain focused, diligent, and loyal, noting that higher ranks come with greater responsibilities.

The Commander further urged the troops to intensify their efforts in support of the 82 Division’s drive to guarantee peace and security across the South-East. He stressed that their new ranks should motivate them to demonstrate higher levels of discipline, loyalty, and operational efficiency, particularly in ongoing operations under Operation UDOKA.

The ceremony featured words of advice from senior officers, including the Chief of Staff, Colonel SM Ahmed; the Garrison Commander, Lieutenant Colonel J Abuo; the Commanding Officer 342 Artillery Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel BB Laah; and the Brigade RSM Master Warrant Officer Malam Garba. Highlights of the event included the decoration of the soldiers by senior officers and family members, followed by a group photograph.
