2018 World Cup Draw: Nigeria in Group D Alongside Argentina, Iceland and Croatia
Nigeria have been drawn in Group D of the 2018 Fifa World Cup alongside two-time champions Argentina, Croatia and debutants Iceland.
It’s the fifth time that the Super Eagles will be playing Argentina in the group phase of the World Cup since their first appearance at USA 1994.
The Eagles last month stunned Argentina 4-2 in an international friendly played in Krasnodar, Russia, but have lost all previous World Cup clashes against the Albiceleste by the lone goal.
Iceland made history by becoming the smallest nation to qualify for the Mundial earlier this year, and they’ve already shown what they are capable of in the big tournaments by eliminating England in last year’s European championship.
Croatia have made it to the World Cup since picking up the bronze medal on their debut at France 1998, and boast a number of top players across Europe’s major leagues.
At the glitzy event in Kremlin hosted by England legend, Gary Lineker and Russian journalist, Maria Komandnaya, hosts Russia were thrown in Group A and will play the opening match against Saudi Arabia on June 14. Egypt and Uruguay complete the group.
European champions, Portugal, have their hands full in a tough-looking Group B that also features 2010 champions Spain, Iran and Morocco.
World Champions Germany will slug it out with Mexico, Sweden and South Korea, while five-time champions Brazil have to contend with Switzerland Costa Roca and Serbia.
