GOC 6 Division Applauds Chief Of Army Staff For Prioritising Troops’ Welfare
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force South South, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, has applauded the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for prioritising the welfare of personnel of the Nigerian Army.
The GOC gave the commendation on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, while delivering his opening remarks at a one-day sensitisation programme organised by the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation (NAFIC), held at the Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya Badminton Court, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.
Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah described the sensitisation lecture as timely and essential, noting that it underscores the COAS unwavering commitment to the welfare and morale of troops of the Nigerian Army. He stated that the Nigerian Army Personnel Insurance Scheme (NAPIS) represents a landmark achievement since its establishment in 2023, aimed at providing a robust welfare and safety net for personnel.
According to the GOC, the scheme was established to ensure adequate care and support for personnel while in active service and for their families in times of grief. He added that the initiative is designed to bridge critical gaps in the welfare architecture of the Nigerian Army by providing much-needed compensation and support for personnel injured in the line of duty, as well as for those who paid the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation.
Earlier, the Director General, Nigerian Army Finance Corporation (NAFIC), Major General Julius Osifo, while delivering his opening remarks, highlighted numerous welfare packages introduced under the leadership of the COAS, including salary increases and other incentives aimed at motivating troops across the board. He noted that the insurance scheme complements existing welfare programmes and reinforces the institutional support system for Nigerian Army personnel.
Major General Julius Osifo urged troops to maximise the opportunities created by the COAS to improve the wellbeing of their families. He further encouraged personnel to disseminate the knowledge gained from the sensitisation programme to their various formations and units to ensure wider awareness of the welfare packages available to Nigerian Army personnel.
Relatively, during a courtesy call on the GOC at the Headquarters 6 Division Nigerian Army, before the commencement of the sensitization lecture, Major General Julius Osifo disclosed that the sensitisation programme was a directive of the COAS, aimed at educating troops on various welfare initiatives designed to enhance the wellbeing of personnel.
He further revealed that efforts are ongoing to establish the Nigerian Army Microfinance Bank to provide personnel with easier access to loans, particularly to support spouses’ businesses and improve family welfare.
Highlights of the event included the signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of plaques, and a group photograph.
