Activate NAOWA, NASWA In New Units and Formations To Sustain The Support Of Our Gallant Troops Fighting In Different Theatres Of Operation — GOC 2 Division

The Chairperson, Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), 2 Division Chapter, Mrs Adaobi Onubogu, has said that NAOWA is a Non – Governmental Organisation, which rely on the kind donations and support of military personnel and philanthropists, to reach out and touch lives of the less privileged, widows and the needy within the Barracks and neighbouring communities.

Mrs Onubogu, made the statement during her courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Obinna Onubogu, at the Division’s Headquarters, on Friday 22 March, 2024. She thanked the Almighty God for the GOC’s appointment, while expressing deep appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja NAM, for finding the GOC worthy of the appointment. To the new GOC, she said; “we congratulate you, Sir, as the appointment is a call to keep doing more, we pray that God will guide you as you steer the leadership wheel of this great Division. Thank you, Sir, for approving of this visit and for the warm reception and audience you and your officers have given to us.”

Speaking further, the Chairperson, noted that NAOWA 2 Division under her leadership, will remain loyal to the Association’s national President, Mrs Mariya Abiodun Lagbaja; while working in line with her vision, which is, “Sustaining Legacies Through Unwavering Commitment to Unity and Service for the Betterment of Humanity.” She said that NAOWA, 2 Division chapter, shall remain resolute in maintaining and building on the structures laid down by her predecessor. She informed the GOC that the Association will be marking the world Tuberculosis Day for school children on Monday, 25 March, 2024.

The Chairperson, also stated that the Association will soon resume familiarisation visits to Brigades and Formations under the Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR). In line with this, she solicited the human, material and financial support of the GOC and the Division at large, to enable the Association achieve its set goals. “Be rest assured that whatever assistance you render to the Association will be highly appreciated and well utilized”, she said.

In his remarks, the GOC, expressed delight at receiving Mrs Onubogu and her team; noting that their large turn out for the visit was a clear indication of a formidable team, ready to make priceless sacrifices for the good of the Association. He said the act of team spirit was highly commendable and a plus to the Chairperson. He thanked the NAOWA members on behalf of the COAS, officers and soldiers of the NA, for the support they have continuously rendered, particularly for holding the home front while personnel serve the NA and the nation in different locations within and outside the country.

The GOC, noted that what he inherited from the immediate past GOC and others who had served in the Division, clearly shows that NAOWA has continuously received adequate support. “At 2 Division, what I took over from my predecessor and other GOCs that have been here, shows that they have rendered quite enormous support to NAOWA. We can see that by the number of schools and skills acquisition centres that NAOWA has built over time. The support that NAOWA has also rendered to soldiers’ wives, especially the widows amongst them is quite enormous and commendable”, he said.

Major General Onubogu, on behalf of the COAS, thanked the national President, NAOWA, Mrs Mariya Abiodun Lagbaja, for all her outstanding commitments towards steering the activities of NAOWA to greater heights. He stated that the Division will continue in this regard; remaining committed to rendering adequate support to NAOWA in all their activities “We are committed to supporting you to make sure that the objectives and mandate of your Association are well achieved.” He promised to provide adequate support to NAOWA, as it marks the forthcoming world Tuberculosis Day for school children.

The GOC urged the Chairperson, Mrs Onubogu, to activate NAOWA and NASWA in the new units and formations within the Division’s AOR. “We have new locations in the Division, so please, try to activate NAOWA and NASWA in these locations, so that we can continue to support our gallant officers and soldiers as they fight in different theatres of operations across the country”.

The event was well attended by Principal Staff Officers to the GOC and Officials as well as other members of NAOWA, 2 Division Chapter. It was climaxed with presentation of souvenirs and group photograph.
