Chief Of The Naval Staff and Chief Of Army Staff Reaffirm Commitment To Community Development In Kano State

The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, have reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to community development and the strengthening of civil-military relations across the country.

Both Service Chiefs made this known during the commissioning of Special Intervention Projects jointly executed by the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy in Koya community, Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

The projects commissioned include a newly constructed mosque, a borehole, a healthcare facility, and a tree-planting initiative aimed at improving living standards and promoting environmental sustainability.

Represented by the Commander Infantry Corps, Major General Usman Yusuf, the Chief of Army Staff emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of host communities through Civil-Military Cooperation programmes. He noted that such projects promote trust, national unity, and sustainable development.

Lieutenant General Oluyede also commended Major General Mohammed Ahmed for his exemplary leadership in executing the project, describing him as a professional officer whose contributions embody the spirit of service and dedication to national development.

In his remarks, the Chief of the Naval Staff, represented by the Commandant, Nigerian Navy Logistics College Kano, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Anakwe, stated that the projects were executed under the Navy’s Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiative. He noted that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and reflects the Navy’s continuous efforts to foster mutual trust and improve social infrastructure in host communities.

Vice Admiral Ogalla stated that the Quick Impact Projects, introduced in 2024, provide avenues for the Navy to honour its distinguished officers while contributing meaningfully to national development. He commended Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, an indigene of Koya Gari, for sponsoring and executing the projects, describing them as a demonstration of the Navy’s humanitarian commitment beyond its core security mandate.

He further urged residents of the benefiting communities to maintain and utilize the facilities responsibly to ensure their sustainability.

The projects were facilitated by Major General Mohammed Ahmed and Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, both brothers and indigenes of Koya community, who championed the interventions.

Residents of Koya expressed deep appreciation to the Nigerian Army and Navy for the gesture, describing the projects as timely and impactful.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior military officers, government officials, traditional rulers, and members of the host community.
