Christian Chukwu Appointed New Boss of NPFL Champions, Enugu Rangers

Enugu Rangers International have confirmed the appointment of Nigeria great Christian Chukwu as their new head.

Chukwu, 66, who captained and managed Rangers at different times, has been appointed by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to oversee the day-to-day running of the activities of the club in his capacity as Chief Executive Officer and General Manager.

Supersport.com reports that his appointment follows the sack of the former board headed by Ozor Chibuzo as a result of the Flying Antelope’s slow start to the defence of their 2016 NPFL title.

Imama Amapakabo’s side has only managed one win, three draws and one defeat to place 12th on six points after Week Five.

Chukwu, who begins his reign as the club’s boss with a trip to south-east rivals FC IfeanyiUbah in their next league outing, says it’s time to steady the ship, SuperSport writes.

“It has not been a great start to the season for Rangers to be honest but the time has come to steady the ship,” he said.

“First, I want to use this medium to thank the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for this honour to serve my state and I assure him that I will not let him or the good people of Enugu down.

“I need the support of all stakeholders because that is the only way we can make this club great again.

“What we need to do now is unite and come together again as we look to do very well in the NPFL, the Federation Cup and the Caf Champions League.”

Enugu Rangers begin their campaign in the 2017 Caf Champions League with a tricky tie against Algeria’s JS Saoura in the preliminary round.
