CR7 not good Enough! Brazil Legend Ronaldo Picks his All-time XI

Brazil football legend Ronaldo, famously referred to as “the original Ronaldo” by none other than Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho, has put together his all-time best XI and, curiously, there’s one name that’s conspicuously missing: Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Three-time world player of the year Ronaldo focused more on superstars of the previous era, with Barcelona and Argentina magician Lionel Messi being the only player still in the prime of his career to make the All-Star XI, although there were spots for players like Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, and Andrea Pirlo, now with New York City FC in MLS.

Naturally, El Fenomeno included himself on the list as a striker alongside Pele in a 4-4-2. No surprises there, it would be a crime if he was left out, really.

Here is the full “Dream Team” as chosen by Ronaldo himself…

Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Buffon
Right back: Cafu
Centerback: Paolo Maldini
Centerback: Fabio Cannavaro
Left back: Roberto Carlos
Right midfield: Diego Maradona
Center midfield: Zinedine Zidane
Center midfield: Andrea Pirlo
Left midfield: Lionel Messi
Striker: Pele
Striker: Ronaldo

Of course Cristiano Ronaldo would have something to say about this list, but as the Brazil legend rightly said, “I know I miss a lot of players, but this is my best, my dream team.”

So, does this put paid to the Messi v CR7 debate? Definitely not, but a nod from football’s royalty can hardly be ignored.

There’s one for the Messi column.
