Forget strike, NYSC warns corps members

The National Youth Service Corps on Friday told serving and prospective corps members to be disciplined and committed to the rules of the organisation as the NYSC does not go on strike.

The organisation urged corps members to be change agents and strive to dispel the myth on COVID-19 vaccination, adding that during the recent strike by the Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors, “NYSC corps personnel were working.”

The NYSC also drew the attention of the prospective corps members to the use of social media, stressing that they were expected to follow official NYSC handles for authentic information.

A statement by the NYSC Director (Press and Public Relations), Adenike Adeyemi, said its Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, made the appeal in a webinar organised by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in conjunction with NYSC aimed at sensitising the 2021 Batch ‘C’ prospective corps members on safety measures adopted to ensure a safe and COVID-19-free orientation course nationwide.

“We don’t go on strike,” the NYSC DG warned in the statement.

He advised them to quickly take advantage of the opportunity provided by the Federal Government by making themselves available for the COVID-19 vaccination currently going on nationwide.

According to him, the NCDC/NYSC partnership has remained strong in the fight against the deadly pandemic.
