GOC Charges Troops On Combat Readiness As 82 Division Proficiency Competition Ends

The General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Oluremi Ayobami Fadairo, has charged officers and soldiers to sustain a high level of combat readiness, professional competence and physical fitness, as the 2026 82 Division Combat Proficiency Competition ended with 82 Division Garrison emerging overall winner and 13 Brigade Nigerian Army securing second position.

The four-day competition, hosted by 13 Brigade at Akim Barracks, Calabar, from 17 to 20 August 2026, brought together formations under 82 Division to test their combat skills, physical fitness, technical competence, teamwork and ability to perform effectively under pressure. Activities included weapon handling, map reading, obstacle crossing and other combat-related tasks. Other participating formations were 14 Brigade, 34 Artillery Brigade and 44 Engineer Brigade.

Speaking at the closing ceremony as Special Guest of Honour, Major General Fadairo said combat effectiveness is built on continuous training, discipline, teamwork and the ability to apply military skills accurately and confidently in challenging situations. He commended all participating formations for their competitive spirit and professionalism and urged them to carry the lessons of the competition back to their units and translate them into improved performance during routine and operational duties.

In furtherance of efforts to enhance the welfare and physical readiness of personnel, the General Officer Commanding commissioned the Ibrahim Attahiru Fitness Centre at 13 Brigade and a block of 12-family Corporal Below Quarters at Eburutu Cantonment. The facilities are expected to improve the welfare of personnel and their families while supporting physical fitness, morale and operational effectiveness.

The competition reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to realistic training and sustained operational readiness across its formations.
