Nigerian Army Schools and Unit in Basawa Conduct Bi-Annual Route March

Nigerian Army Schools and Unit in Basawa Barracks have conducted their 2026 Bi-Annual Route March as part of efforts to enhance troops’ physical fitness, combat readiness, mental alertness and unit cohesion.

The exercise, which held on 21 August 2026 at Basawa, Zaria, Kaduna State, brought together officers, soldiers and students from the Nigerian Army School of Military Police, Nigerian Army School of Legal Services and 11 Field Engineer Regiment.

Flagging off the route march, the Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Military Police, Brigadier General Onalo Yakubu, represented by the Deputy Commandant, Brigadier General Charles Ikechukwu Nwonyi, stated that Route March is a routine training activity in the Nigerian Army designed to keep personnel physically and mentally fit for the effective performance of operational duties.

He urged participants to maintain discipline, demonstrate professionalism and uphold the highest standards of military bearing throughout the exercise.

Also speaking, the Acting Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Legal Services, Colonel Daniel Ehicheoya, commended the participants for their endurance, commitment and discipline, noting that such exercises are essential to sustaining the operational effectiveness and overall wellbeing of military personnel.

The successful conduct of the route march underscores the commitment of the participating formations and institutions to maintaining a physically fit, disciplined and operationally ready force.
