In a continued effort to strengthen security within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs, troops of the Guards Brigade Nigerian Army have successfully concluded a two-day intensive Field Training Exercise (FTX), Exercise CROCODILE PUNCH, conducted at Shittu Alao Barracks, Keffi, Nasarawa State, from 21 – 22 April 2026.
The exercise was aimed at improving troops’ proficiency in patrolling and raid operations, particularly in complex and high-risk environments. It commenced with a detailed indoor briefing session, where personnel were exposed to contemporary operational strategies, mission planning procedures and coordinated execution techniques.
This was followed by a practical field phase, during which troops were deployed in well-organized groups to simulate real time operational scenarios. The exercise featured coordinated patrols, targeted raids on identified objectives, and the clearance of simulated hostile hideouts. Troops displayed a high level of discipline, teamwork and tactical awareness throughout the operations.
Key focus areas of the training included rapid response, intelligence-led operations and effective communication, which are essential components for successful engagement in modern security operations.
Addressing the troops at the conclusion of the exercise, the Commander Guards Brigade, Brigadier General AO Onasanya, commended their dedication and professionalism. He emphasized that sustained and realistic training remains crucial in ensuring that troops are prepared to preempt the adversary and also respond effectively to emerging security threats.
He further reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to maintaining a proactive security posture across the FCT and neighbouring areas, stressing that ongoing operations will continue to target and disrupt criminal elements. He also called on residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
The successful conduct of Exercise CROCODILE PUNCH underscores the readiness and operational competence of the Guards Brigade Nigerian Army, as they remain steadfast in their mandate to safeguard lives and property and ensure lasting peace within the nation’s capital and beyond.
