Seven dance groups and 14 singers will slug it out at the quarter finals of the ongoing Igbo highlife talent hunt, HiLife Fest.

The event is an annual musical talent hunt focused on discovering and giving talented Highlife musicians and dancers a platform to showcase their talents.

The quarterfinal of the Lager Continental beer-sponsored event will hold at CS Park, Aba on Sunday.

It would feature musical performances from Obiligbo Brothers, Tipsy Kelvano, 2017 Hilife Fest King Chibest David and superstar Flavor N’abania.

With N10 million at stake, the contestants must do all it takes to impress the judges comprising David Jones, Jude Aguize, Nicholas Akas, Michael Ndubuisi and Highlife Veteran, Bright Chimezie.

The regional final in Aba produced three quarter finalists, two from the singing category and one dance group from the cultural dance category, each winning 20 crates of Life Continental Lager beer.

The first runners up and second runners up in both categories went home with N50,000 and N30,000 each respectively.

The music competition, kicked off with the first set of auditions in Aba on March 18 before moving to selected South-east states.

The quarter finals will be an interesting medley of the best of highlife music and cultural dance.

From the singers, the judges have said they will be looking out for “gripping renditions steeped in soulful vocals touching on social issues and moral values”.

The dancers will be expected to tell a story with every dance move matched with the beats of Igba, calibrated pitch of Oja, percussive tunes of Ogene and rhythmic sound of Ekwe.

At the end of the competition, 10 singers and five dance groups would advance to the semi final stage.

Speaking on the expectations for the quarter final, Portfolio Manager, Mainstream Lager and Stout Brands, Nigerian Breweries, Mr. Emmanuel Agu explained.

“We saw a fantastic display of talent by the contestants during the regional auditions. Now that we are in the quarter final stage, we expect even more intense and beautiful renditions of Igbo highlife music by the contestants and I am confident the judges will have a hard time deciding, as all the quarter finalists are super-talented. Essentially, we hope to see a sustained culture of highlife music and dance amongst our younger generation.”
