Sports writers across the country have reacted to the ongoing leadership tussle at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), calling on Minister of Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, to rein in Ambassador Chris Giwa and bring an end to the lingering crisis.

The position of SWAN was made known after their emergency full council meeting in Ilorin, Kwara state, over the weekend, where the writers’ body condemned the antics of the Giwa-led group and tasked the Sports Minister to take a decisive step to put an immediate end to what they termed a “national embarrassment”, Vanguard reports.

In an 8-point communiqué, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) also enjoined all stakeholders in sports to put aside personal ambitions and create an atmosphere of harmony as only in so doing will the sporting sector develop, now more than ever, with the Olympic Games in sight.

The umbrella body then used the opportunity to call on the sports ministry and the Nigeria Olympic Committee to “ensure proper and adequate preparation for Team Nigeria’s successful participation at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games to avoid a repeat of the 2012 disastrous participation in London (2012)”.

At the end of the meeting, a seven-man electoral committee to be headed by Yusuf Isa was inaugurated by the council with a mandate to conduct elections into the National Executive Committee within 90 days.
