Nigeria Customs Apprehend Container Load Of Arms
There was chaos at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos Tuesday after officials of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) intercepted a container filled with arms.
This is coming four months after Customs intercepted 661 pump action rifles being shipped into the country via Lagos.
According to a source at the port who spoke with Premium Times, the seized container was found at the Ports and Cargo Terminal of the Tin Can Island Ports during inspection Tuesday morning.
“As I speak to you, they’ve ordered everyone to go out of the terminal and they have locked up everywhere,” the source said.
While customs are yet to officially release a statement on the discovery, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Customs, Tin Can Island Command, Uche Ejesieme, confirmed the incident, saying details would be made public later.
“We are still counting,” Mr. Ejesieme told PT in a phone conversation.
There are no clues yet as to the owners of the arms or who was responsible for the shipment, and it’s unlikely that the public will be any wiser in the near future seeing how previous cases have gone unresolved.
