Nigeria to Take on Senegal, Burkina Faso Ahead of Afcon/World Cup Qualifiers
Ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon 2019) and 2018 World Cup Qualifiers later this year, the Nigeria Football Federation has lined up two international friendlies with Senegal and Burkina Faso respectively for the Super Eagles in March.
The Eagles missed out on the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations played in Gabon, and will use the game to fine-tune preparations for the all-important qualifiers coming up later this year.
In a chat with Goal, Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye confirmed that Gernot Rohr’s men will take on Senegal on March 23 in London, and the Stallions of Burkina Faso four days later.
“The Super Eagles will play Senegal on March 23 and Burkina Faso on March 27,” Ibitoye said.
“Both friendly matches will take place in London and the NFF are expected to reveal more details.
“The invitation of players and coaches’ programmes for the friendlies have been sorted out and will be announced soon by the NFF too.
“We believe the game will offer the team [Super Eagles] quality competition that will put them in good shape ahead of our qualifiers.”
Three-time African champions Nigeria enjoy a four-point lead in Group B of the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers ahead of their massive double-header against reigning African kings Cameroon.
They also take on South Africa, Libya, and Seychelles in the qualification campaign for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
