Nigerian Air Force, AUST Explore Strategic Collaboration In Aviation, ICT and Defence Technology
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) are exploring opportunities to expand cooperation in aviation, information and communication technology, research and innovation in support of national security. This emerged during a courtesy visit by the President of AUST, Professor Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, and his delegation to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at NAF Headquarters, Abuja. Professor Onwualu commended the NAF for its efforts in safeguarding Nigeria’s airspace and highlighted AUST’s growing academic portfolio across degree, postgraduate and professional programmes.
The engagement focused on the potential for academia to support the NAF’s evolving knowledge and manpower requirements, particularly through specialised education, research and technical expertise. Such cooperation could provide opportunities for personnel development while encouraging the application of contemporary knowledge and innovation to areas relevant to aviation and modern airpower.
The CAS welcomed the engagement, noting the value of credible academic institutions in supporting the Service’s professional and technological advancement. The discussions represent a positive step towards identifying practical areas of mutual interest that can strengthen expertise, foster innovation and contribute to the NAF’s ability to effectively deliver its mandate in service to Nigeria.
