Nigerian Air Force Football Club Tops Nigerian National League, To Be Promoted To Nigerian Professional Football League

The Nigerian Air Force Football Club (NAF FC) has emerged top of Group A1 Table of the 2018/2019 Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)/Nigeria National (NNL) League with 15 points from 8 matches. With this feat, the NAF FC has secured one of the playoff slots leading to promotion into the prestigious Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) and subsequently play in the super 4 NPFL Championship at the end of the season. To get to this point, NAF FC recorded 5 wins and 3 losses in their playoff. In their last match, which took place in Nasarawa on 6 July 2019, the NAF FC secured another 3 points by defeating Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Football Club (EFCC FC) by 1 goal to nil.

According to the Coach of NAF FC, Yakubu Sambo, the Club has been looking forward to the opportunity of being on top of the NNL, which he promised would be maintained. He attributed their success to God, the support of the NAF leadership as well as team work. He therefore implored the Club’s fans to remain committed to the Team while promising that the Club would endeavour to pick one of the playoff tickets. The Club, which is chaired by the Director of Administration, Headquarters NAF, Air Vice Marshal Nelson Calmday, and managed by Group Captain Magnus Abanum, the Deputy Director of Sports Headquarters NAF, was the first military team to be promoted to the NNL in 2017. In the 2016/2017 League Season, the NAF FC finished in 3rd place and was awarded the best behaved Team.
