In furtherance of efforts at continually providing service to Humanity, the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) has graduated another batch of women and youths from its Skills Acquisition and Vocational Training Programme in Azare, Bauchi State. The 8th edition of the Programme, which ended yesterday, 16 October 2018, witnessed the graduation of 151 participants. The training provided participants with needed knowledge and skills in areas such as computer studies, catering and confectioneries, hairdressing, tailoring, interior decoration, aluminium door and window fabrication as well as make up artistry. Others were trained in beads and accessories design, soap and cosmetics production as well as shoe and bag making. The Skills Acquisition and Vocational Training Programme is in line with the Association’s resolve to contribute its quota to the efforts of the Federal Government aimed at curbing unemployment among Nigerian youths.

While speaking during the ceremony, the NAFOWA National President, Hajiya Hafsat Sadique Abubakar, appreciated the Emir of Katagum and the entire people of Azare for their acceptance and participation in the skills acquisition programme. She reiterated the commitment of the Association towards doing its best in contributing to the socio-economic wellbeing of women and children in the society. She noted that the graduation ceremony of the 8th edition of the Skills Acquisition and Vocational Training Programme would not have been possible without the unprecedented support and encouragement the Association has been receiving from the current NAF leadership. The Association, she said, has trained and empowered 2,000 participants across the country from May 2016 till date. Hajiya Abubakar congratulated the graduating students for successfully completing the training and urged them to make good use of the skills acquired to improve their productiveness and general wellbeing.

The Special Guest of Honour, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Special Operations Command, Air Vice Marshal Musa Tanko, appreciated the humanitarian contributions of NAFOWA, especially to the less privileged in the society. He said he was particularly delighted that Azare, which falls within the Special Operations Command’s Area of Responsibility (AOR), was chosen as venue for the 8th edition of the skills acquisition programme. He assured the Association of NAF’s continued support of its various programmes. Highlights of the event included the inspection of exhibition stands where products of the graduating students were displayed as well as the presentation of certificates and starter packs to the graduating students by the NAFOWA National President.
