Nigerian Navy ship rescues hijacked vessel off the coast of Rivers state

A Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Centenary has successfully rescued a hijacked supply vessel, MV BOURBON about 55 nm off Brass, Rivers State.
The Navy dispatched the NNS Centenary after it received a distress call from the owners of the vessel, and the rescue was completed at about 2 pm on Wednesday. Both vessels are currently heading towards the Federal Lighter Terminal, Onne, Port Harcourt where the naval authorities will conduct further investigation.

However, one Russian and a Nigerian were abducted from the MV BOURBON before the NNS Centenary could establish contact and rescue the vessel from the hijackers.

The Navy said efforts are currently ongoing to ascertain the whereabouts of the abducted crew men.

Recently, a Nigerian Navy Ship NNS OKPABANA rescued MT MAXIMUS, a foreign oil tanker which had been hijacked by gun men off the coast of Cote d’Ivoire. The ship was laden with 4,700 metric tons of AGO. In that operation, Nigerian Navy personnel killed one pirate and arrested six others.

The ship had a crew of 18 from Pakistan, China, Sudan, South Korea and Ghana.
