Nigerians Panic as Vincent Enyeama Trends on Twitter

Nigerian international goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama caused an internet meltdown Sunday morning when he trended on Twitter.

The retired Super Eagles captain, whose 14-year international career was filled with unforgettable memories, got millions of fans on the edge when he became the no 1 trend in the wee hours of Sunday.

Ordinarily, this should be a cause for curiosity, even joy, but with the recent deaths of football greats Stephen Keshi and Shuaibu Amodu – both coming at the break of dawn – it was a bad time to trend and Nigerians made that clear in no uncertain terms.

It turned out the Lille LOSC goalie was celebrating his 10th wedding anniversary with wife Promise, an event he shared in this tweet on his handle (@vinpee).

The 33-year-old shot-stopper is presently celebrating the occasion with his adorable family in Dubai, but that tweet, though misconstrued, has overshadowed the great moment as the reactions go from panic to nostalgia and angst…
