‘You Have Nothing to Celebrate’ – Rio Ferdinand Slams Pogba
Paul Pogba may have impressed a few following his world record switch to Manchester United last summer, but club legend Rio Ferdinand is irked by his antics and has asked the Frenchman to concentrate on his football and improving their position on the log.
This comes after Pogba, 23, uploaded a video on Instagram of him and club mate Jesse Lingard showing off their latest moves in the team’s locker room.
Ferdinand, who captained United under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, says Lingard and Pogba should be focusing on firing the team up the table rather than showing off on social media, Goal writes.
“I’ve just seen a video of the lads dancing in the changing room. I’m all for having a bit of fun on social media and stuff,” he told BT Sport.
“But not when you’re fifth [United are actually sixth] in the league, and you’re not in the Champions League positions.”
The former England centre-back also insisted that that kind of behaviour would not have happened during his time at Old Trafford.
“You haven’t won anything yet,” he added. “Until you’ve won something you can’t go out and do stuff like that,” he said.
“I’m all for having fun and I think part of Pogba’s appeal especially is that he is a happy free spirit and I wouldn’t want to take that away from him. But I think there’s a time and getting the balance right.
“If that comes out when you’ve won a cup final I’d be the first on to be pushing it out all over the place. The way I see it we’re fifth in the league, we’re fighting for a Champions League position we haven’t got any silverware yet.
“I’d want to keep myself out of the radar a little bit until I get to that point.”
The Red Devils continue their Premier League charge with a home tie against Hull City later tonight.
