Personnel Welfare: Nigerian Air Force Commissions Residential Accommodation For Officers In Jos

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 29 October 2018, commissioned 2 additional blocks of 10 one-bedroom furnished accommodation for single officers at 551 NAF Station Jos, Plateau State. The commissioning further emphasises the high premium which the current NAF leadership places on the welfare of its personnel for enhanced operational efficiency. Speaking during the commissioning, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented by the Chief of Administration, Headquarters NAF, Air Vice Marshal Kingsley Lar, stated that the project was geared towards enhancing the welfare of personnel to enable them focus on their tasks and contribute in adding value to the Service.

While congratulating the beneficiaries of the new accommodation, the CAS enjoined them to make the best use of the facilities and also ensure their proper maintenance at all times. Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar said that the Service would not relent in ensuring that every personnel was adequately accommodated for increased productivity. He reiterated the need for all personnel to be mindful of the fact that the task of nation building is a collective responsibility especially as the nation currently faces several security challenges. He added that one of the paramount constitutional responsibilities of the NAF is the protection of lives and property of all Nigerians, not minding their political or religious affiliations.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander 551 NAF Station, Air Commodore Kabiru Aliyu, expressed appreciation to the CAS for the continuous infrastructural development extended to the Unit. According to him, the newly commissioned project, which would further reduce the burden of accommodation on the Base, would not have been possible without the dedication, wisdom and support of the CAS. Dignitaries at the commissioning ceremony included the representative of the Plateau State Governor, the Commissioner for Information Plateau State, Mr Yakubu Datti, serving and retired senior military officers as well as heads of security agencies in Plateau State. It would be recalled that the NAF, on 14 May 2018, completed and commissioned several projects in Kerang, Plateau State. Some of which include the Group Headquarters Complex of the newly established 205 Combat Search and Rescue Group (CSARG), a block of 10 one-bedroom accommodation for Non-Commissioned Officers and a block of 6 one-bedroom Single Officers’ Quarters. Others are the Commander’s Official Residence and 4 x 2-bedroom residential accommodation for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers serving in the Unit.
