Plateau Security: Operation Safe Haven Engages Bokkos, Mangu Stakeholders In Jos

The Special Task Force Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) has met with key stakeholders from Bokkos and Mangu local government areas of Plateau State, following the resurgence of criminal attacks in the areas.

At a meeting held at Headquarters 3 Division Nigerian Army (NA) today 24 April 2024, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army (NA) and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General AE Abubakar, disclosed that the meeting was aimed at addressing the latest security concerns in some parts of the State. The commander expressed displeasure over the reoccurring breach of security, which has resulted in the death of innocent civilians.

The commander reiterated the triggers of conflict on the Plateau which he emphasised must be adequately addressed to prevent further breakdown of law and order. He urged the stakeholders to support the resettlement efforts of government and security agencies, thereby allowing displaced persons to return back to their ancestral homes. General AE Abubakar disclosed that some of the perpetrators of the recent attacks have been arrested, weapons and motorcycles recovered while troops continue to conduct operations to bring the remaining perpetrators to justice.

Speaking at the stakeholders engagement, the Executive Governor of Plateau State His Excellency Barr Caleb Manasseh Muftwang represented by the Commissioner For Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Ephraim Usman, he opined that the people have lost trust in each other, and government must work to realign the people. The Governor reiterated government’s commitment to policing the state and making it safe for innocent citizens.

The various stakeholders who spoke during the meeting emphasized the need for genuine dialogue and forgiveness between warring parties, so as to forge ahead and allow the state attain economic prosperity. They resolved that the people must help government to implement policies that will bring permanent peace to troubled areas in the State. They also affirmed their resolve to support security agencies henceforth in ensuring that normalcy is returned to all the affected communities.

The meeting had in attendance top government officials, religious/traditional leaders, youth leaders and sociocultural groups.
