The Lagos State has arrested three community leaders in Ikotun for lynching a suspected burglar.
The burglar had invaded the room of a certain Mrs Adeyemi Opeyemi who lives at No 2, Asalu Bus Stop, off Abaranje Road, Ikotun, Lagos, attempting to rob her. The victim raised an alarm and the burglar escaped into the street when some members of the community apprehended and beat him to death.
In a statement by the State’s Police PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the community leaders, Sakariyau Biliaminu, 66, John Adeyemi, 77 and Gabriel Ajay, 55, were arrested on Wednesday April 7.
Adejobi said the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem, has condemned the act of jungle justice metted on the suspect and vowed to kick against such in the State.
Security operatives on Tuesday also arrested three traffic robbers identified as Bashiru Ammo, 19, Ibrahim Mohammed, 23, Arinze Victor, for terrorising innocent commuters in the Ojo area of Lagos State.
The Police PRO said that other suspected receivers to the traffic robbers were arrested on Wednesday April 7 and they are identified as Bello Jafaru, 20, Nuru Abdullahi, 23, Nafiu Saray, 21 and Bashiru Mohammed, 19, all of Kasuwan-Dare Alaba Rago, Ojo-Lagos.
The suspects confessed to be involved in attacking and dispossessing commuters and motorists of their valuables along Ojo-Iba Road.
During the course of the investigation, a certain Lucky Gurube, 19, was arrested. The suspect confessed to be a pick-pocket who has been picking people’s phones along Iyana Iba, Ojo-Lagos.
Police operatives attached r the Ojo Division on Wednesday arrested another set of traffic robbers in Ojo, along Iyana Iba to PPL, Area of Lagos.
The suspects are identified as Mathew Christopher, 25, Babangida Umor, 25, Babangida Abdullahi, 19. They were arrested with some weapons like knives, cuttlasses, broken bottles and other offensive weapons.
Similarly, security operatives attached to the Ikeja Division of the command on April 5 accosted three suspected armed robbers on a motorcycle along Awolowo Way, Ikeja, and arrested one of them while the other two fled.
The suspect identified as Malik Abdullahi was arrested in possession of one locally-made single barrel gun with assorted charms.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered that all the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for discreet investigation
