President Buhari Meets Embattled Lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met with embattled House of Representatives member Abdulmumin Jibrin at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Jibrin was suspended for 180 legislative days in September 2016 following claims he made that the 2016 budget was padded to the tune of over N284 billion by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara in connivance with three other principal officers of the House.

Jibrin, who represents Kiru, Bebeji constituency had on December 20, petitioned the presidency and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, calling for intervention in his continued suspension.

The lawmaker on Instagram, disclosed that he met Buhari. Sharing a photo of himself and the president, Jibrin wrote:

Today, I had a private and fruitful meeting with our President, Muhammadu Buhari. I am glad despite his busy schedule, he prioritized the quest of our people to have their representation restored. Thank you all for keeping this issue on the front burner, and thanks to Mr President for his listening ears.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, according to Premium Times, Jibrin said he could not comment on whether the president would intervene in his matter. He said:

Well, I cannot comment in that regard. The most important is that I saw him and he is in a very high spirit. I greeted him like a son and he spoke to me like a father.
