President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered military commanders to shoot non-security personnel armed with AK-47 rifles.

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered military commanders to shoot non-security personnel armed with sophisticated weapons.

Garba Shehu, the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity disclosed this on Wednesday while speaking to BBC Hausa Service on the spate of insecurity in the country, particularly banditry in Zamfara state.

“The president has ordered security forces to go into the bushes and shoot whoever they see with sophisticated weapons like AK-47,” the aide to the President said.

Shehu disclosed that the “no-fly zone” order issued in Zamfara was based on intel that illegal miners and arms dealers fly into the state using helicopters.

Meanwhile, the National Security Adviser, Major General Monguno (retd.) has revealed that certain individuals are benefiting from Nigeria’s insecurity, especially kidnapping. Although the NSA did not disclose the name of the individual (s) he hinted that the persons have been put on surveillance and the defense and intelligence organisation has been put on alert.
