It is safer in my Anus than in my Stomach, 50-year-old Drug Courier Tells NDLEA

A 50-year-old drug trafficker, Aniebue Nnamma, who was arrested with 460g of cocaine in his anus, told the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency that he felt safer hiding the drug in his anus rather than swallowing it.

According to the Punch newspaper, Nnamma, was arrested with another drug mule, Nzube Chikwudi who interestingly, was travelling to China with a Ghanaian passport with the name, Sokpe Zubbye. China anti-narcotic law prescribes the death Penalty for convicted drug traffickers.

A 38-year-old musical instrument trader at the Alaba International Market, Lagos, Ugwuezumba Arinze, was apprehended with 2.130kg of methamphetamine, which he ingested. He was on his way to Indonesia, another country that kills convicted traffickers.

While a fourth suspect, Obinna Obi (30), an aluminium fabricator from Umuahia, Abia State, had in his possession 5.2kg of Indian hemp destined for Doha, Qatar.

Nnamma said he became a drug courier because he was broke. He added that he had planned to ingest the drug but became scared for his life so he decided to hide it in his anus.

I was afraid of swallowing the drug so I inserted the drugs in my anus. I was afraid it might burst in my stomach. Poor patronage in my business and family problems turned me into a pauper. But now I regret everything,” he said.

Chukwudi, a freight forwarder in China  said he was promised N1m to smuggle the drug. He said the recession in Nigeria made it difficult for him to pay his bills and could not resist the lure of drug trafficking.

Since I live in China, I felt it would be easy for me to go through security checks but unfortunately I was caught,” he said.

Obi however said he did not know how the marijuana found in his bag got there.

My friend gave me a bag to deliver to Doha but during the screening of passengers, NDLEA officials discovered Indian hemp inside it,” he said.

A statement by the NDLEA spokesperson, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said a total of 8.8kg of narcotics was confiscated from drug traffickers at the  Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos during the week.
