According to People, the singer who recently concluded her Revival World Tour said she is suffering the side effects of an illness she has, which causes ‘depression, anxiety and panic attacks’.

I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off,” she told People. “I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.

In her October Billboard interview, the singer revealed that she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Lupus in 2013. And when she was checked into a rehab, people assumed it was due to substance abuse.

I could have had a stroke,” she told Billboard. “I wanted so badly to say: ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re assholes’. I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.

Now, the side effects are back again. Speaking with People, Kenneth M. Farber, the co-CEO and co-president of the Lupus Research Alliance said they are proud of Gomez.

It is not commonly known that depression, anxiety and panic attacks can be side effects of lupus,” Farber said. “We are so proud of Selena for taking care of herself and bringing awareness to this sometimes very misunderstood illness.

Selena Gomez did not state when she would return to the industry again.
