Super Eagles Coach, Rohr Drops Ezenwa for Nigeria vs Argentina Match
Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has announced that changes will be made from the squad that played a 1-1 draw with Algeria when they take on Argentina in an international friendly on Tuesday.
Following a number of injuries to key players and travel hitches, Rohr made six changes to the starting XI that took on Algeria in Constantine on Friday.
While the Eagles extended their unbeaten World Cup qualifying run to 36 games with a commendable 1-1 draw against the Foxes, the German tactician has revealed that changes will be made to the side that files out against two-time world champions, Argentina.
The coach confirmed the return of captain John Obi Mikel, who according to him, had to be rested for the game on Friday.
“Mikel of course will come back. He didn’t play against Algeria because it was not a good moment for him coming from China. Playing two games in four days is a risk for him and we both agreed that it was best for him to sit out”, Rohr said.
He went a step further by also hinting at a possible debut for newly invited Deportivo La Coruna star Francis Odinaka Uzoho in place of goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who had a rather shaky night in Constantine, Vanguard writes.
“Against Argentina we will make some changes with two or three players. It will be interesting to see another goalkeeper. We have to work hard to be better.”
The Eagles take on Argentina in the Russian city of Krasnodar in preparation for a possible South American opponent when the group stage draw for the 2018 World Cup is done in December.
