The Chief of the Naval Staff Working Visit To Headquarters Logistics Command Oghara

The Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral IE Ibas was at the HQ Logistics Command, Oghara on a Working Visit on Monday, 5 October 2020. The purpose of the visit was to assess the transformation and progress made at the Command, since the assumption of office by Rear Admiral SS Lassa as Flag Officer Commanding, Logistics Command.

The CNS during the reception organized in his honour informed all that the last time he was at the Command, he was concerned about the future of the NN as the support required from the LOC were not forthcoming as expected with regards to sustaining the fleet, units/ establishments and considering the huge investment the Federal Government is expending in running the Armed Forces. He further stated noted that without robust Logistics, having a functional system will be a mirage.

The Naval Chief however added that, in his words “I am happy to state, that, from what we see, I believe that we are on the right path”. He added “An outstanding transformation of the Command and facilities. He further commended the efforts and said “Bravo Zulu” – Keep it up”.

Vice Admiral Ibas further observed, despite the huge achievements made by the Logistics Command, that there are so much still begging to be accomplished. And this can only be achieved, if all the Officers and Ratings continue to support the FOC Logistics Command by keying – into his transformation drive of the Command “I want believe the FOC, Command Principal Staff Officers and Commanders of Units under the Command will not rest on their oars in order to sustain this remarkable and unprecedented progress made”.

The CNS reminded personnel of the Command on the current security challenges in the nation and called for more commitment and sacrifices from all and sundry to overcome these challenges.

Also, he called on everyone to abide by the COVID-19 established protocols promulgated by the NCDC as well as dedication toward observing social distance, regular hand washing and avoiding crowded spaces.

Places visited by the CNS during the Working Visit to the Headquarters Logistics Command included, Newly Remodeled Headquarters Logistics Command Tailoring Workshop, Command’s Library and Command’s Operations Control Room for Integrated Logistics Management. At the Nigerian Navy Barracks Oghara, Admiral Ibas inspected the 1,722m length x 11m new asphalted road network and constructed 1,354 meters length of Drainages across the Barracks, other projects inspected were; Completed Three blocks of 4 x 1 bedroom Accommodation for Junior Officers, Ongoing Construction of Rating’s Transit Accommodation and a Gymnasium where the CNS planted a Tree to support the Command’s Tree Planting Campaign.
At Sapele, the CNS inspected the new Nigerian Navy Garment Factory with over 160 Industrial sewing machines.

Senior officers that accompanied the CNS during the Visit were Rear Admiral A Akininade Commander Operations DELTA SAFE, Rear Admiral SS Garba FOC Central Command, Rear Admiral NB Nagenu Director Project Monitoring and Evaluation Naval Headquarters. Other were Commodore CE Atebi Naval Provost Marshall, Commodore B Iyalla Director Project Naval Headquarters, Commodore S Dahun Director Information Naval Headquarters and Commodore SA Adepegba Commander NNS DELTA.
