We Shall Fight Corruption Through Football – Magu says As EFCC FC Unveils Jersey

Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,Ibrahim Magu, has described sports, especially football as a veritable tool in fighting corruption.

Magu who described football as a proactive measures in order to effectively fight corruption said “football as a sport is not new and we take delight in various sporting activities, this is the reason why we want to inculcate football as a strategy to fight corruption”.

Magu made this assertion on Thursday, May 3, 2018 while unveiling the official jersey of the EFCC FC (EFCC Football Club), Abuja, at the EFCC permanent site where he was joined by senior management staff of the Commission as well as officials of the EFCC Football Club.

Magu who unveiled the jersey with a red T-shirt that displayed MAGU No 9 was flanked by senior management staff with red and white jerseys tagged, “say no to corruption”.

The EFCC FC which was founded in 2007 has a robust management team, technical team, players and officials. In recent times, EFCC FC won the FCT FA Cup 2017, adding another feather in their cap.

Joining to celebrate this milestone, the Secretary FCT, Football Association, Abuja, Mr Usman Haruna Ilerike, who was in attendance said he was a strong supporter of the EFCC FC.

According to Ilerike, “I believe that the future is bright for all the Nigerian youths as football is an engaging sport that will direct the youths from being used for corrupt practices but into something purposeful and profitable”. He added that in 2016 in the Annual General Assembly an integrity committee consisting of two desk officers at each club was set up to check the menace of corruption even in FCT”.

The measure, he said is currently being developed and will be sustained worldwide.
Among the EFCC FC management in attendance was the Chairman of the EFCC FC, Halilu Daubu; Secretary, Mohammed Saleh and Provost, Abdulfatayi Alidu.

In his remarks, Patron of the EFCC FC, Mohammed Bako said that football is a social way of networking and EFCC is using this platform for dual purpose of enjoying a good game and mobilizing people while creating awareness about the fight against corruption.
