Wrestling: Four Nigerian women qualify for Rio Olympics

Four Nigerian female wrestlers on Saturday booked tickets to participate in the Rio Olympics after excelling in their respective events at the ongoing Africa – Oceania Olympic qualifier taking place in Algiers, Algeria.

The quartet, who have just secured tickets to fly Nigeria’s flag in Rio are Blessing Oborududu, 63kg; Mercy Genesis, 48kg; Aminat Adeniyi, 58kg; and Hannah Reuben, 69Kg.

Nigeria now have five female wrestlers for the 2016 Rio Olympics as Odunayo Adekuoroye had earlier qualified by winning a bronze medal in the 53kg at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas.

Having seen their female counterparts excel, the male wrestlers in Algiers will hope to follow suit as they take centre stage on Sunday.

The Nigeria male freestyle wrestlers in Algiers are: Welson Ebikewenimo (57Kg), Daniel Amas (65Kg), Melvin Bibo (74Kg) and Soso Tamara (97Kg).
