1 Division Nigerian Army Concludes Inter-Brigade Officers Combat Proficiency Competition 202 As 1 Division Garrison Emerges Overall Winner

1 Division Garrison has emerged best overall winner in the just concluded 1 Division Inter-Brigade Officers Combat Proficiency Competition 2023. The weeklong Competition which was held at the Nigerian Defence Academy Sports Complex, Rabidu Cantonment, Kaduna held from 13 – 17 August 2023 and had participants drawn from 1 Division Garrison, 3 Brigade and 31 Artillery Brigade respectively

At the end of the Competition, 1 Division Garrison topped the table by coming first position in skill at arms, map reading, obstacle crossing and best overall while 3 Brigade won the combat swimming competition and came 2nd position and 31 Artillery Brigade took 3rd position.The participants competed in range classification, map reading, combat swimming and obstacle crossing.

In his closing remarks, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander Operation WHIRL PUNCH, Maj Gen BA Alabi who was represented by the Chief of Staff 1 Division, Brig Gen MK Gara stated that the objective of the Competition was met and that training remained pivotal to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) transformational drive as articulated in his Command Philosophy which is “To Transform the Nigerian Army into a Well-trained, Equipped and Highly Motivated Force Towards Achieving Our Constitutional Responsibilities Within a Joint Environment”.

He reiterated that the activities selected for the Competition were deliberate and designed to sharpen troops battle instincts to better confront the prevailing security challenges in the Division’s operating environment.

In his words, “ To win our battles, we must be proactive in our operations and be steps ahead of the adversary. This can only be achieved through battle-oriented training such as this among other factors. The takeaway from this competition are beyond the individual and collective prizes, it is about training in the way we fight and being ready to justify the gains of the competition in the battlefield.”

The GOC appreciated the COAS Lt Gen TA Lagbaja NAM for providing all the required resources for the Competition and several other interventions to support the Division.

Highpoint of the Competition was the presentation of trophies to formations that distinguished themselves.
