EID-EL-FITR: US Consulate warns of terrorist attack in Lagos

Terrorists are planning to attack expatriates and foreign visitors in Lagos State during the Eid-el-Fitr holiday, the United States Consulate in Nigeria has said.

According to statement published on the website of the US Mission yesterday, hotels in Lagos, which are frequented by expatriates, are the likely targets of the terrorists.

“The U.S. Mission in Nigeria advises that groups associated with terrorist activity might be planning attacks against hotels in Lagos frequented by international visitors, including those located on waterfronts, during the Eid-al-Fitr holidays (5 and 6 July 2016).

“The U.S. Mission in Nigeria reminds you to review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates. Be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security,” the statement read.

However, Lagos State Police Command yesterday assured Lagosians of their safety before, during and after the celebration.

Spokesman of the command, Dolapo Badmus, A Superintendent of Police said:  “The command has put up operational strategy to ensure that citizens within the state are adequately secured. The command is on ground, we are not letting our guards.”
