FC Barcelona Officially Opens Football Academy in Lagos

The officials of Spanish football giants FC Barcelona have formally launched their FCBEscola football Academy in Lagos state, South-West Nigeria.

On hand to officially open the much-talked about football academy were FC Barcelona Director, Pau Vilanova and the Project Director of the FCBEscola, Franc Carbó, Channelstv writes.

In keeping with the long-standing tradition of FC Barcelona, the institution is expected to enroll boys and girls between the ages 6 and 18.

After a partnership agreement was reached with the Lagos State Ministry of Sports last year, the reigning Spanish champions decided to bring its world famous academy to the Nigerian commercial capital in furtherance of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Nigerian League and La Liga.

This is the first of its kind project in Sub-Saharan Africa and would provide opportunities for potential footballers, from all over the country as well as other parts of the continent, to receive first class sporting and educational training.

They would also receive training in English, Spanish, French and other Modern European languages, as well as General and Applied Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences, Creative, Technical and Vocational studies.

FCBEscola Lagos is modelled on FC Barcelona’s own youth system, La Masia, and would offer world class facilities and methodologies to these youngsters.
