Iheanacho, Siasia, Apapakabo Gear Up for Nigerian Sports Awards
Manchester City wonder-boy, Kelechi Iheanacho, coach of the reigning Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) Champions, Imama Amapakabo of Enugu Rangers and U-23 coach, Samson Siasia, headline the nominees for this year’s award by the organisers of the annual Nigerian Sports Award (NSA) scheduled to hold on 2nd December, at the prestigious Banquet Hall of Eko Hotels and suites, Lagos.
According to the chairman of the award panel, Mr Ikeddy Isiguzo, a total of 11 categories will be contested for this year, Vanguard writes.
Speaking at a media briefing on the event in Lagos on Tuesday, Isiguzo said the performances of our athletes and sports in 2016 has been sub-par as there’s really nothing major to celebrate aside the exploits of our Paralympians in Rio.
“We therefore decided to add colour to the 5th edition of the award by celebrating Some first in Nigerian sports at the highest level.”
Joining Super Eagles star Iheanacho on the podium for the prestigious Footballer of the Year are Godwin Obaje of Wikki Tourists, who was top scorer in the recently concluded NPFL season, and Chisom Egbuchulam, the talisman of reigning Nigerian champions, Enugu Rangers.
Coach Imama Amapakabo of Rangers, Samson Siasia of the U-23 Dream team and Are Feyisetan of Nigeria Powerlifting will vie for the Coach of the Year Award.
There will also be an award for the special sports person of the year.
