IPOB Women go Topless to Protest Military Harassment in Abia State

Women of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) went topless to protest what they considered harassment by military personnel in Abia State on Friday.

In a Facebook live stream allegedly recorded at the venue of the IPOB Women’s Conference in Abiriba, Abia State, a good number of women could be seen walking topless and sobbing loudly as they were torn apart from the meeting.

According to the commentator on the video live streamed by a Facebook user Chukwuebuka Idoko, men of the Nigerian army stormed the venue of the conference in Abiriba, and arrested their young ladies and mothers after assaulting them in the course of the gathering.

In the video, some of the unclad women were seen chanting songs of resistance in the Igbo language as they lamented yet another attempt by the authorities to stifle their voices and trample on their rights.

It can be recalled that scores of Igbo youths were killed and many injured during a confrontation with the authorities on the occasion of the 2016 Biafra Day, while 18 pro-Biafra agitators were arrested during the celebration of MASSOB’s 17th anniversary.

The Biafra separatist movement has got new impetus following the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu last month, and Igbos have been asked to sit at home May 30th in solidarity with the cause.
